The Spirit of
God Still Speaks
To The Church Of Today

Couldn't
you just imagine yourself sitting here beside Jesus, sharing moments of
intimacy with him and hearing him speak words of wisdom from above.
How
wonderful it must have been for those who walked with him on the road to
Emmaus. Their very hearts burned within them as they listened while he
expounded on the scriptures that were written concerning him. He sat at meat
talking to them then the time came to break bread . Jesus broke the loaf of
bread before them and as he did their eyes were opened and they realized who
it was that sat with them . It was Jesus ! As they realized this he vanished
out of their sight, right before their eyes. Could you just imagine how it
must have been for them them.
God
still speaks to his children. We don't have to wait and long for an
experience like the one on the road to Emmaus. The Lord said Lo I stand at
the door and knock : if any man hear my voice and open the door I will come
in and sup with him and he with me.
Many
denominations falsely teach that God no longer speaks to his children .But
this simply isn't true. Some denominations teach that God used to speak but
that all of those things ceased with the last of the original twelve
apostles. But nowhere in the bible does it say God will no longer speak to
man. In fact is states quite to the contrary that in the latter times that
God would pour out his Spirit upon mankind and that your young men would
have visions and the old men would have dreams and that the daughters would
prophesy. God still speaks to us in dreams and visions and by way of the
Holy Ghost and the gifts of the spirit.
(* See below for a list of related articles on the gifts of the Spirit,
visions dreams etc.)
What
had happened here is that many unbelieving churches won't allow the
manifestation of the spirit of God to move upon the churches and the people
within. For many churches have refused to yield to the knocking at the door
and Jesus is still standing out side knocking to come in.
The
things of the Spirit of God do frighten some people and in particular those
who are in unbelief, and who are untaught or mis-taught in man's doctrine.
Man's doctrine teaches that God doesn't speak and that miracles and healings
and all of those things ceased with the last of the apostles but no where in
scripture does it say this is true, yet man because of ignorance has taught
these things in the churches and has by this left the Lord standing out
side the church knocking. Though the Spirit of God resides in the believers
who have accepted him, the moving and manifestation of the gifts of the
spirit have in many churches ceased because of un-yieldedness and unbelief.
This is due to the teaching of wrong doctrine.
God
is not one to push his way in where he is not welcome. Rather he is patient
and longsuffering toward us. We are in the acceptable year of the Lord and
God waits patiently for us to yield to him.
In
contradiction to what many have thought to be true, God still speaks to the
church of today. He has not abandoned us to live through this life without
his guidance and leading. God speaks to us in and throughout the scriptures,
but this is not the only way he speaks to the body of Christ today.
1 God,
who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath
in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of
all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who
being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and
upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged
our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Heb
1:1-3 (KJV)
We see
in the verse above that God does speak to us in many ways. The word diverse
in this passage means different. If by different ways he speaks, then there
must also be more than one way in which he speaks otherwise, what would be
different from the one way ?
The
Logos and the Rhema Word:
And
when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command
that these stones be made bread.4 But he answered and said, It is written,
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of
the mouth of God.
Matt
4:4 (KJV)
This
includes both the logos and the rhema word of God. Logos means written and
Rhema means spoken.
The
logos Word of God can be found written in the scriptures. The rhema word
comes from the supernatural spoken word of God.
God's
word, whether written or spoken is powerful and creative and alive. By his
Word he created the earth.
The Lord
said:
John 6:63 (KJV)
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words
that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Isaiah
55:10-11 (KJV)
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not
thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it
may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return
unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall
prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Heb
4:12
(KJV)
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two
edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and
of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of
the heart.
Again this includes both the written and spoken word of God, as well as the
living Word of God.
The
written word of God was written by men of God under the anointing and the
power of the Holy Spirit.
God's
word is spiritually discerned.
1
Cor 2:11-16
(KJV)
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is
in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which
is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth,
but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with
spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for
they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of
no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we
have the mind of Christ.
We
have the mind of Christ through the workings of the gifts of the Spirit. The
gifts of the spirit were given to the body of Christ as the Spirit of God
wills for the purpose of edification and exhortation and instruction.
The
Rhema Word:
The
rhema word comes to us by way of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The rhema
word is a manifestation of God working and moving and speaking through the
gifts of the Spirit.
