The Gift of Faith
1 Corinthians12:4-11
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which
worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit
withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the
word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of
healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another
discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another
the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the
selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
The gift of faith,
along with the working of miracles and the gift of healings is one of
three power gifts given to the body of Christ. These three gifts do
often work together.
The gift of faith is a
Supernatural faith given by the spirit of God, in addition to saving
faith which is different. The gift of faith is faith over and above
human reasoning, for the purpose of receiving and working miracles. It
is important to understand that there is a difference between the gift
of faith which is the supernatural faith to receive miracles. and the
measure of faith that is given to every man, also known as saving faith.
Ro 12:3 For I
say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you,
not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to
think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of
faith.
The measure of faith given to every man is the
faith to receive salvation. Aside from this there is the faith we have
that allows us to have the confidence to believe God to have our needs
met.
In essence there are three types of faith.
-
A measure of faith (Saving faith) given to
every man.
-
General faith; faith that comes by the hearing
of the word of God. (Ro 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.)
-
The gift of faith (Supernatural Faith to
receive miracles).
Manifestations of the gift of faith. The
gift of faith is often manifested for various purposes as the Spirit of
God wills.
v
to supernaturally sustain a person beyond natural
abilities.
v
to believe God in raising the dead.
v
to cast out demonic spirits
v
to receive blessings and or miracles.
Examples of the gift of faith at work
The gift of faith was in operation when Daniel was
placed in the lions den. The Supernatural faith that was in operation
allowed Daniel to believe God would help him and he received a miracle
of divine intervention.
Daniel in the lions den.
Daniel6:22 My God hath
sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt
me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before
thee, O king, have I done no hurt. 23 Then was the king exceeding glad
for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den.
So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found
upon him, because he believed in his God.
Elijah by the gift of faith makes a prophetic
declaration that it won’t rain for three years.
1Kings 17:1 ¶ And Elijah
the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As
the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be
dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
